Michael Phelps has brought the ancient Chinese art of cupping into the spotlight during the Rio games. A practice many are familiar with, cupping is a therapy in which glass or silicone cups are used to create suction across the bodies meridians. This technique helps to increase the flow of energy through out the body. At The Windham Spa we incorporate cupping into many of our massages, including Deep Tissue, Recovery, and Tension Tamer. To learn more about the benefits and side effects of cupping check out this article on WebMd.com.
Feeling nostalgic on this cold windy holiday I can’t help think about how the past life of the spa was a guest house that would be closed during the cold months. Also, the fact that the phone number is only three digits thrills me to no end! I’m eagerly awaiting an answer on when three digit telephone numbers were around, and if it was a party line. We love hearing the stories that keep trickling in about when it was a guest house!
It’s been such a busy fall here at the spa. We’ve been getting ready for the busy winter ahead, cleaning up the gardens, planting and prepping for next year. One of the most rewarding but treacherous tasks was harvesting all the rose hips. My knuckles look like I used a cactus as a punching bag. BUT… It is all in the name of healthy, beautiful skin and the best products! I’ve been making a healing, hydrating and firming eye mask to help soothe all the tired eyes in the world, or at least 100 or so. Rich in Vitamin C, Rose Hips are a super fruit that will lighten, brighten and tighten the skin. Handmade with Fair Trade Organic Shea infused with lemon cucumber extract (which is actually a cucumber that looks like a lemon, and I happened to grow and extract myself! Und it helps relieve puffy eyes) and jojoba oil seal the deal for picture perfect eyes. I recommend pairing it with our Biodynamic Eye Peel for absolute perfection. Hope you enjoy! xo Antonia

While whipping up this week’s scrub – Minty Melon, we couldn’t help but think of how delicious it would be in a cocktail. So we made one.
Minty Melon Cooler
- 1 cup Ice
- 2 cups Watermelon
- 1/4 cup packed Mint Leaves
- 1 Lime, juiced and zested
- Enough Tequila to make you forget how hot it is
Place first 4 ingredients in a blender until smooth. Top off with Tequila and enjoy!
